
Walk into most bulk packaging plants fertilizer, resin, minerals, food ingredients, it doesn’t matter which and you’ll find the same quiet leak in almost every one of them. It isn’t the raw material cost. It isn’t labour, at least not directly. It’s the bag.
Specifically, it’s the pre-made bag sitting in a pallet stack next to the filling line, waiting to be picked up, opened, positioned, filled, and closed — one bag at a time, by a machine or a person, hoping every step goes right.
Most plant managers don’t think about this as a “problem” because it’s just how bagging has always worked. But add it up over a shift, a month, a year, and it becomes one of the more expensive habits on the floor and often the clearest sign that it’s time to look at a form fill seal machine instead of another round of pre-made bag orders.
Pre-made bags look cheap on a purchase order. The real cost shows up elsewhere:
None of these show up as a single line item on a cost sheet. They show up as “output was lower than expected this week” and nobody can quite say why.
A growing number of plants especially in fertilizers, chemicals, resins, sugar, salt, and food ingredients have quietly moved away from pre-made bags altogether. Instead of buying finished bags, they feed a continuous roll of tubular film directly into the packaging machine, which forms the bag, fills it, and seals it in one uninterrupted sequence.
This is the form-fill-seal (FFS) approach, and once you see it running, the earlier problems stop looking like “the cost of doing business” and start looking like things that were simply designed out of the process.
It’s less a new machine category and more a rethink of where the waste was actually coming from.

The feeding system is matched to what’s actually being packed gravity, belt, or screw feeding since urea doesn’t behave like sugar, and sugar doesn’t behave like PVC resin.

The sealing system holds consistent temperature control across product types, which is where a lot of lower-end FFS machines start to struggle once you move away from perfectly free-flowing granules.
Changeovers are fast because there’s less to change. Since the bag is formed from film rather than pulled from pre-made stock, switching bag length or product is largely a parameter adjustment on the HMI rather than a physical stock swap which matters most on multi-SKU lines where changeover time directly eats into shift output.
It’s built to sit inside a line, not stand alone. The stainless-steel, corrosion-resistant construction and modular design mean the ASSAC connects directly with upstream dosing and weighing systems and downstream conveyors and palletizers, so it isn’t a machine you work around it’s one you build the rest of the packaging line to match.
Optional stations extend it further. Printing, labelling, and gusseting units can be added where brand presentation or bag stability on the pallet matters as much as fill accuracy.
Not every plant needs to move to tubular FFS. If you’re running low volumes with infrequent SKU changes, the case is weaker. But if any of this sounds familiar, it’s worth a closer look:
